Ziliang Lin

Internship, is a kind of expectation of my own growth, is the beginning of my own role to change, and is the expectation of my dream to come true. 

I am currently undertaking my internship in the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. During my stay in the hospital I usually attended the ward round with the doctors. Even though they spoke Chinese most of the time I could follow and understand the medical treatment. I could also ask a lot of questions about the diagnosis and treatment of each patient and the doctors were very friendly and gave me immediate replies. The doctors always tended to prescribe a lot of medication at once and they never hesitated to prescribe antibiotics when a fever or stomach ache appeared. I really appreciated that the doctors at my hospital had a very friendly and casual relationship with the patients and never hesitated to joke around with them.

I also had the chance to observe an operation at the theatre. The patient had an inguinal hernia (a hernia in the spermatic canal). The operation was performed under sterile conditions by a doctor from the hospital.
