Being a foreigner, not knowing how to speak in Chinese fluently and having to work as a medical intern was a nightmare I thought but I was proved wrong. Working in this hospital has given me a valuable experience. It gave me exposure to a wide variety of patients, health care professionals, and health care situations. Though my role and responsibilities were limited, great opportunities were available right here in first affiliated hospital of Sun  Yat-sen university. We had to rotate through different hospital departments (pediatrics, neurology, surgery) after a specified period of time. We juniors and seniors were matched with health professions mentors from many fields for shadowing opportunities. Working here was hectic at times, but my senior doctors described the process as transformative.

Interning in this hospital not only prepared me for my further career but it also gave me once in a lifetime experience. I got to see the world in a whole new way like how working as a doctor in foreign country feels like. We were assigned a supervisor who was there to provide support and guidance throughout our placement in this hospital. We were given the opportunity to focus on specific cases, or to solve medical issues under the guidance of our senior doctors.

All the things that I learned, practised and experienced were only possible because of the opportunities given to me by the hospital and doctors who work here, without their help i wouldn't be able to practice any clinical skill. Thanks to them for being so kind and generous.

It goes without saying that an internship experience in first affiliated hospital of Sun Yat-sen university will give my career the needed edge to land on my dream job in this globally competitive climate.

Last but not the least I would like to thank the teaching department of this hospital for always being there for us in the time of need and helping us throughout. This experience and growth as a doctor would never be complete without them.
