Biography

Prof. Liang Lijian is professor of surgery, doctoral supervisor and one of eminent consultant doctors of Sun Yat-sen University. Prof. Liang is also a laureate of national outstanding teacher awarded by the Chinese Ministry of Education and an expert receiving the State Council special allowance. Prof. Liang received his undergraduate education and his M.D. at the Zhongshan Medical College of Sun Yat-sen University in 1970. He received his surgical training at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and joined the faculty there in 1979, rising to the rank of professor of surgery in 1995. Prof. Liang had been appointed to the position of Surgeon-in-Chief and Director of the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery from 1995. He was appointed chairman of the Department of Surgery at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from 2000 to 2016. He was nominated as honorary president of the college of basic surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital in 2016.

Prof. Liang has served as vice president of Branch of China, International Association of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery (IHPBA), vice chairman of Division of Biliary Surgery, Branch of Surgery, Chinese Medical Association and present of Branch of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, Guangdong Province Medical Association. At present He is a senior member of IHPBA, vice president of Branch of Biliary Surgeons, Chinese Medical Doctor Association, honorary president of Branch of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, Guangdong Province Medical Association and honorary president of Branch of Biliary Tract Cancer, Guangdong Province Anti-Cancer Association. He also holds honorary president or emeritus president of other medical associations in China.

Prof. Liang has a wealth of clinical experience in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery. He is an internationally acknowledged expert in treating complicated hepatolithiasis, hepatocellular carcinoma with macro-vascular invasion, radical resection of hilar cholangiocarcinoma and complicated pancreatic surgery with vascular resection and reconstruction. He has been awarded as Eminent Doctors of Guangzhou and Top 100 Expert of General Surgery in China especially.

Prof. Liang is principal investigator of 10 research projects and he holds 1 national patent. His achievements in clinical and scientific research including 4 research awards and 2 teaching achievement prizes; one of these awards is second prize of Science and Technology Progress Award by Ministry of Education, another one is third prize of the Science and Technology Prize of Guangdong province. He is currently editor of the national medical education planning materials of Surgery for undergraduate and graduate medical student. Prof. Liang’s bibliography lists over 300 journal articles including more than 20 SCI articles. He has tutored more than 40 postgraduate master students and doctoral students.
